Every year on her birthday, Kendahl has the same wish: she wants a puppy of her own. But every year, her mother tells her, “When you are older,” reminding her that owning a puppy is a big responsibility—and a lot of work.
Finally, on her sixth birthday, Kendahl gets her wish. Her mom surprises her with a new puppy, whom Kendahl names “Apple.” Though Kendahl is thrilled to finally have her cherished dog, Apple teaches her that owning a real puppy is not like having a stuffed animal. In this heartwarming illustrated story, a young girl learns that growing up is about more than the number of candles on your birthday cake; it is also about work, responsibility and unconditional love.
